Traditional Opera in Guizhou, China
$399.00
Dixi, or “ground opera,” is a 600-year-old masked drama in Guizhou, particularly around Anshun’s Tianlong Tunpu, often called a “living fossil” of Chinese drama
. Performed by villagers on open ground during the Spring Festival, actors wear elaborate wooden masks on their foreheads to honor ancestors and ward off evil.
